The EU organic logo and labelling is a quick and simple way for consumers to recognise organic produce, and an important
step in guaranteeing that organic produce is always of the same high standards.
Food quality – ‘organic’ by definition means GMO-free, high restrictions on the use of pesticides, fertilisers,
and antibiotics.
Inspections and controls – all organic operators must be controlled at least once per year. Short supply chain –

Animal welfare
The application of high animal welfare standards respecting species specific needs, is part of the principles of
organic production. This includes the selection of appropriate breeds and husbandry practices as well as the maintenance
of animal health by encouraging the natural immunological defence of the animal. The wellbeing of livestock must
be ensured throughout the whole production process.
Organic operators
Organic farming is an overall system to manage a farm and produce food, while ensuring the following: best environmental
practices, high level of biodiversity, the preservation of natural resources, high animal welfare standards.
The control bodies are entitled to run control on each organic operator and investigate whether the production is according to the standards. Organic operators are controlled once a year to make sure that the rules are respected and if they are, the products may bear the organic logo of the European Union. There are two years of conversion period in organic farming before a product can be marketed as organic.
